Calgary Transit New Flyer D40 #7001 Charter

Welcome to the photo gallery for the Calgary Transit New Flyer D40 charter. This charter took place on Friday August 27, 2010 with the only remaining New Flyer D40 high floor bus in the fleet. #7001 was originally part of an order of 10 such buses delivered in 1992. In 2006, #7002 and 7005 saw retirement, by mid 2009 the remainder had been retired. However #7001 had been rebuilt and was thus was saved from retirement.

It has been widely accepted that of rebuilding the New Flyer D40 was not cost effective by Calgary Transit standards in comparision to rebuilding the GM New Looks and MCI Classics. This realization came to being only after #7001 had been rebuilt. The majority of the less then 100 hundred remaining New Flyer D40's in Canada operate for Winnipeg Transit. However, Calgary Transit's #7001 is among one of the various examples of small fleets of New Flyer D40's that still exist.
