Hong Kong Metro Cammell Weymann (MCW) Metrobus

The Metro Cammell Weymann (MCW) Metrobus first entered the Hong Kong bus market in 1978 when China Motor Bus with the 12 9.7 metre MCW Metrobuses. Following this order and into 1979, 40 11 metre MCW Metrobuses were delivered to China Motor Bus. In 1981 both China Motor Bus and Kowloon Motor Bus took delivery of several 12 metre MCW Metrobuses. From 1983 to 1990, China Motor Bus, Kowloon Motor Bus and KCR Feeder Bus took delivery of many Metrobuses of varying lengths. No further Metrobuses were produced after 1990. Today less than half of Kowloon Motor Buses 254 11 metre Metrobuses and 37 of 39 KCR Feeder Bus 9.7 metre Metrobuses remain. All of which are being slowly retired as they are among the oldest buses in revenue service. Engines for the MCW Metrobuses were either Gardner 6 Cylinder engines or Cummins LT10/LTA10's with Voith 3 speed Votih D851 or 4 speed Voith D864G transmissions. The MCW Metrobus chasis and body are both built by MCW. Metorbuses came in 9.7m, 11m and 12m of length. All are non air-conditioned, but prototpye air-conditioning was installed in some KMB Metrobuses but later removed as they failed.
