MUNI Cable Cars

Welcome to the Cable Car gallery. Cable cars are iconic of San Francisco, often appearing on postcards and other media forms. San Francisco is the only city in the world to operate this propulsion system for mass transit. San Francisco was the first to start operating them in 1873, 130 years later 3 lines remain after other cities in the world have shutdown their systems. To learn more about the system please go here.
