New Flyer D40

Welcome to the New Flyer D40 photo gallery. Translink (under former BC Transit) bought 156 of these buses in 1991 and 1992. 43 of which are Suburban style, these buses have single width rear doors, thick padded seats, reading lights and have highway gearing. Originally all 156 were powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines and Allison HTB-748 transmissions (2 1992's came with Allison B400R4's). However, 3157 has a Series 50 engine because the original engine was destroyed in a fire. All these buses have wheelchair lifts and two wheelchair positions on board. Most of these buses have been repainted into the CMBC "Sweep" paint scheme, while some remain in the BC Transit paint scheme. All the D40's have Luminator flipdot destination signs.

The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the week following was the final time that most of these buses ran in revenue service. In 2009 and 2010, the New Flyer D40 replacements had arrived, these were in the form of Nova Bus LFS buses. Most of the D40 fleet survived till the end of February 2010, when the Olympics took place. During this time many of the buses served as floaters (designated by a red card in the windshield), and some were assigned to regular runs such as those on the 15 and 84.
