Edmonton Transit System New Flyer D60LF

Welcome to the New Flyer D60LF photo gallary. Edmonton Transit took delivery of their first New Flyer D60LF's in 2001. These were the first articulated buses that Edmonton operated on a long term basis. Previous demo buses include: MAN SG220- 16.5 (m), MAN SG220- 18 (m), Crown/Ikarus 286.02, GM TA-60102N and New Flyer D60. Ironically, these demo buses ran respectively in 1978, 1978, 1982, 1982 and 1988. So it was not for over a decade until ETS made the decision to actually buy some articulated buses. Even more ironically, the bus they bought, they never operated any demo units. However, the New Flyer D60LF in 2001 were already being used by Western Canadian transit agencies such as the 100 large fleet in Vancouver and the 1 that nearby Strathcona County Transit had. The 6 New Flyer D60LF's that were delivered in 2001 came with Detroit Diesel Series 50 engines and Allison B500R5 transmissions. These were the first new Detroit Diesel engines for ETS in 7 years. However, the 2003 order of 7 New Flyer D60LF's are powered by Cummins ISL engines with the Allison B500R5 transmission. The D60LF like it's 40 foot version are low floor and have a kneeling feature. All of these buses have bike racks and two wheelchair positions. ETS's D60LF's are all 3 door versions and the 2001 order has Balios LED destination sign and the 2003's have the Luminator Horizon LED destination sign. The articulated buses regularly run on the busy Route 9 and 100. They can sometimes be seen elsewhere on certian special ocassions where the extra capacity is required.
