New Flyer C40

Welcome to the New Flyer C40 photo gallery. Translink (under former BC Transit) introduced 25 of these buses in 1995 (#3258-3282). They were originally painted in the "Clean Air Bus" scheme to advertise that the buses ran on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) instead of diesel. However, in 2001 the buses were parked and did not return to service till 2004. Upon returning to service the entire fleet of 25 was converted to diesel running over the span of a couple years. These buses were originally powered by the Detroit Diesel Series 50G engine with an Allison B400R5 transmission. The drivetrain remains the same, but the Detroit Diesels Series 50 now runs on diesel, thus the G is dropped. All these buses have wheelchair lifts and two wheelchair positions on board. All of these buses have been repainted into the CMBC "Sweep" paint scheme. All these buses have Luminator flipdot destination signs. These buses are now often referred to as ex-C40 buses or sometimes just D40's. These buses were retired in the Spring of 2011.
